In the final of its three estimates, the Commerce Department showed the annualized GDP rate was slower than the revised 2.8-percent gain in the July-to-September period that it had reported last month. Its initial estimate in October predicted a 3.5-percent jump.

Telangana is a region in Indian state Andhra Pradesh which comprises of more than 10 northern districts of the state. Telangana region is spread over a wide region from Deccan Plateau to the west of Eastern Ghats. It has a population of more than 35 million people and includes cities like Hyderabad, Khammam, Warangal, and Nizamabad. Two important rivers, river Krishna and Godavari, flows through the Telangana region. In 1959, Prime Minister Nehru assigned the task to design the creation of Indian states. The creation of these Indian states was to be based upon languages. The task was assigned to a commission known as States Reorganization Commission (SRC). SRC recommended that Telangana should not be merged with Andhra Pradesh state and should be given the status of an independent state. The government didn’t pay heed to SRC recommendations and merged Telangana with Andhra Pradesh. An agreement was made between Telangana region and Andhra Pradesh state that the resources will be distributed among them according to their rights.
However, government couldn’t fulfill the promises it made to the people of Telangana and the agitation against government spread in the region. This agitation took form of a movement and the participants of the movement started demanding for a separate Telangana state. In 1969, the movement led to widespread protest and violence. Hundreds of lives were lost in the violence.
The movement still remains alive and in 2009 election campaign every major party supported for a separate Telangana state. Widespread protests were made in last weeks of November and early December 2009. Demonstrations were being made and rallies were organized. The leader of the movement K. Chandrashekar Rao announced a hunger strike and a fast-unto-death. In the wake of increasing protests, the home minister announced on December 9, 2009 that the government will start efforts to establish a separate Telangana state. The statement was made on behalf of government of India.

Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram says that government would soon start the process of forming a new state.
According to the details, Telangana independent state campaigners were protesting and asking for a separate state. The campaigners say that their regions have been neglected and have long been deprived of its basic rights. The demand for a separate Telangana state dates back to more than 50 years. The campaigners say that the region, which spans over ten northern districts of Andhra Pradesh, has been neglected and the government has compromised over their development in order to use the resources for richer regions of Andhra Pradesh.
The campaigners had been protesting for last many days and one of the campaign leaders K Chandrasekara Rao announced a hunger strike. He broke his fast after 11 days when the Home Minister made the statement to start efforts for the establishment of Telangana as a separate state. With the announcement of the home minister, Mr. Rao asked his campaigners to stop the protests and demonstrations. The camping members cheered and celebrated after the statement was released. The organizers said that these rallies which were previously protesting for a separate state will now turn into ‘victory rallies’.
While hundreds of the protestors are celebrating the government’s promise, 70 state assembly members have resigned from their seats in the wake of the announcement about separate state made by the home minister. Political analysts say that it would create a crisis in the state.
As mentioned earlier, the campaign for a separate Telangana state was initiated 50 years ago. In 1969, in massive campaign for the establishment of Telangana state, more than 400 people lost their lives in police clashes and violence. Telangana region have a population of 35 million people and has a history of economic deprivation and frequent droughts.
India has 28 states in total. If established, Telangana state would be another newly emerged state. Other newly established separate states are Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
