Michael ‘Big Mike’ Lynche Makes Kara DioGuardi Cry On ‘American Idol’11 Mar, 2010 No Comments

LOS ANGELES — Michael “Big Mike” Lynche made Kara DioGuardi cry and turned the rest of the “American Idol” judges giddy with a moving performance of “This Woman’s Work.”
Lynche, a mountain of a guy who lives up to his nickname, performed last among the eight male semifinalists Wednesday and emerged as the star of the Fox TV show.
“You come out with an incredibly difficult song to sing, and you 100 percent nailed it,” said Simon Cowell. “Not just the best performance of the night, it was the best performance of all these live shows so far.”
The eight female semifinalists performed Tuesday, with the top six vote-getters from the men’s and women’s groups to be announced Thursday.
Lynche, 26, of Astoria, N.Y., moved impressively from a quiet falsetto start to a booming finale, but it was as much the story behind the song as his range that touched DioGuardi. Lynche’s wife had a baby girl while he was in Los Angeles making the cut for “Idol.”
“It’s amazing. You were amazing,” DioGuardi said. “It’s your life right now, it’s your respect for your wife, what you’ve gone through. … It brought me to tears.”
The other contestants, who may have been glad they didn’t have to follow Lynche, picked up a mixture of praise and criticism.
Andrew Garcia, 24, Moreno Valley, Calif., had the roughest night, with his performance of “Genie in a Bottle” deemed pitchy by Jackson and dismissed by Cowell as “a little bit desperate.”
Casey James, 27, of Fort Worth, Texas, did better with “You’ll Think of Me,” which Ellen DeGeneres and Cowell said sounded “great” but struck Jackson as a safe choice.Tim Urban scored with his version of “Hallelujah,” which is becoming an “American Idol” standard.
DeGeneres, noting she has been critical of the 20-year-old from Duncanville, Texas, jumped on the stage to give him a congratulatory hug and called his rendition “fantastic.”
“Todrick’s back!” was Jackson’s response to Todrick Hall’s performance of “Somebody to Love,” while Cowell said it was a mixed performance but may have saved Hall, 24, of Arlington, Texas, from elimination.
Alex Lambert’s version of “Trouble” drew mostly favorable critiques, including a highly creative offering from DeGeneres.
“You’re becoming a mushy banana. You’re ripening so fast,” she said. Translation: The 19-year-old from North Richland Hills, Texas, is getting better and better.
Aaron Kelley, with “I’m Already There,” showed he has the “makings of a great,” Jackson said, and Cowell lauded his emotional delivery – while dismissing DioGuardi’s contention the song about a man away from his family was too old for the 16-year-old from Sonestown, Pa.
Lee Dewyze, 23, of Mount Prospect, Ill., showed “there’s a star bubbling there” with his version of “Fireflies,” said DioGuardi, while Cowell said he was better than the performance but had a “great chance” of making the top 12.
If not, DeGeneres could set him up on a date as a consolation prize: She’s heard from several people with crushes on him, she said.

Reebok Video :Hey, it’s better than a naked Chuck Liddell working out. Yes, Reebok has discovered the wonders of viral video booty. It’s so easy, we wonder why every marketer doesn’t do it. It’s a simple, three step recipe. Find hot girls with nice asses. Dress them in bikinis or thongs (or hot pants if you’re not daring enough). And film them shaking their asses.
Oh yea, there’s a fourth step. Don’t forget to slap your logo on their ass.

Lindsay Lohan is reportedly suing the financial company E-Trade, insisting that the company’s new commercial about a boyfriend-stealing, “milkaholic” baby — who happens to be named Lindsay — was modeled after her. Lohan reportedly wants $100 million, The NY Post reports.
Lohan’s lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, told the newspaper that the actress has the same single-name recognition as Oprah or Madonna.
“Many celebrities are known by one name only, and E-Trade is using that knowledge to profit,” Ovadia said.
The actress filed a lawsuit yesterday in Nassau County Supreme Court over the commercial, which debuted during the Super Bowl this year. PopEater reached out to E-Trade,
Reached for comment, E-Trade tells PopEater they are refraining from commenting until they can review Lohan’s complaint.

Editor’s note: Cisco made headlines today announcing a next generation router that will revolutionize the internet by increasing downloads to unheard of speeds. The Cisco press release makes the following claims about the CRS-3 router:
It enables the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress to be downloaded in just over one second; every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously; and every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes.
Tech Ticker interviewed Kelly Ahuja, Cisco Senior Vice President and General Manager Service Provider Routing Technology Group about the new product this afternoon. He answered all our questions but one: When will consumers be able to take advantage of this new high speed internet? Perhaps that’s because that part of the equation is up to our internet service providers. Until they upgrade it might as well all be a dream.
Below is Kara Swisher’s take on the new product.
Provided by All Things D, March 9, 2010:
Cisco today announced a new version of its key routing system, which the networking giant said has a dozen times the traffic capacity of competitors and three times as much as the company’s previous version.
Cisco’s CEO John Chambers said the CRS-3 Carrier Routing System is aimed at the huge growth in video on the Internet, a trend that has also caused slowdowns.
Pankaj Patel, SVP and GM for the service provider business, claimed the system could in just a few minutes deliver all the movies ever made or allow everyone in China to make a video phone call at once.
It had better. The consumption of video online is growing like crazy and a constant bottleneck is likely without some relief.
“Video brings the Internet to life,” said Chambers. “You are moving from a messaging platform to a video platform.”
Along with Chambers and Patel, AT&T (T) Labs CEO and President Keith Cambron was on the call discussing deployment trials the telecom giant has been doing with the CRS-3. CRS-3 (pictured here) will be available within the calendar year, said the Cisco execs on a press and analyst call this morning.
Cisco had said weeks ago that it was making “a significant announcement that will forever change the Internet and its impact on consumers, businesses and governments.”
Significant? We’ll see, of course. For sure, it was a highly hyped announcement by Chambers. But due to the speculation about what Cisco was unveiling, its stock hit a 52-week high yesterday. It dropped slightly this morning after the call.
Many others are getting into the high-speed act on the Web. Google (GOOG) said recently that it is planning on building a superfast broadband service. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission is set to unveil its own ambitious plan to improve high-speed Internet access across the United States.
Cisco has gotten deep into the video business of late, both in pushing its networking gear and in acquiring a video device maker like Pure Digital, the company behind my beloved Flip digital camera.
It is also working on innovative holographic and television-based home telepresence technologies.

Vermilion Border : Krouse, The Plain Dealer March 08, 2010, 6:00 Cleveland (Ohio – The owner of eight restaurants and a feast in the northern Mexican state of Ohio, pleaded guilty last month to harboring illegal immigrants and providing false tax returns.
Ramon Ornelas of Norwalk could face at least one year in prison when sentenced later this year. It’s a harsh penalty for the crime in the past that usually leads to a mere fine.
Convicted Ornelas, 42, is a manifestation of a larger campaign by federal officials on companies that employ undocumented workers.
Getting tougher with employers – including providing the means and incentives for illegal immigrants to come to the United States – is a more effective way to combat this problem than just arrest and deportation of workers, “said Khalid Walls, a spokesman for the Bureau of Immigration and Customs.
U. S. Rep. Steve Dettelbach agree. Employers to create a market for trafficking in human beings, whether it’s Mexicans who end up in the state of Ohio or Asians in California, he said.
“This money is key to making a criminal,” he said of people who are in the smuggling of illegal immigrants.
More than a decade, Ornelas helped manage a series of Mexican restaurants in the area of Columbus that use undocumented workers, said Matt Hamulak, migration agent who worked Ornelas case.
Ornelas lawyer, Jeffrey Moore, declined comment. But Jaime Serrat, a lawyer who represents the local mentor, former restaurant owner in a separate case of harboring, the senses the most scrutiny by the immigration agency, including the intensification of the criminal prosecution of employers.
“They want to send a message that if you do this kind of thing you’re going to be punished,” said Serrat.
Ornelas-owned restaurants a feast in Youngstown, Vermilion, Ashland, Norwalk, Fremont, Oberlin, Oregon, Sandusky and he is routinely undocumented workers, paying them in cash and failed to withhold taxes, prosecutors said.
It is also found on undocumented workers to places where they live. Ornelas rented homes in the Norwalk, Oregon, and Fremont, where he remained for the workers, he said Hamulak. Ornelas some directors do the same thing. Three of them also pleaded guilty to charges of harboring.
Hamulak declined to provide many details about how to spend Eid was an investigation, but said such cases usually involve control of the restaurant and its staff, as well as record checks.
It takes more than just the physical appearance of the workers to proceed in the investigation, said the walls. And generally requires a tip about illegal immigrants from a source of knowledge can be verified. This person can be an employee, lover of irony or just a citizen concerned.
Israel Zambrano, who owns a restaurant in Los Gallos Bedford and Boardman, he is not sure the restaurant gets the target, but suspected that they often start with the employee who gets in trouble with the police for drinking or some other violation. Police discovered the person is in the country illegally, and find out where he works, and believes Zambrano.
Hamulak, who was the agent of migration in the Cleveland area for 12 years, the criminal prosecution of employers for harboring illegal immigrants is rare in this region. Referred to the case in 2003 involving Chinese restaurants in Chagrin Falls and Solon and a house in Bedford Heights, where he lived workers are undocumented.
In the situation that arose in western New York, and immigration agents raided a jalapeño Loco restaurant in Mentor in 2008. Which resulted in the shelter charges against the owners Alvaro Soto and Augustine Quinones Torres.
Soto of Willoughby and Torres eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser crime than non-reporting of crime. Soto got the test and Torres and expect the same thing, “said Serrat.
The owner of the restaurant III, seen by prosecutors as the leader of this conspiracy, is the deepest in trouble, “said Serrat.
Part of the investigation in Ornelas immigration agency and other law enforcement agencies raided eight restaurants, a feast in July 23, 2008, as well as Ornelas house in Norwalk.
Hamulak said Ornelas was surprised, but remained calm and cooperative during the raids.
“He said it was difficult to find American workers,” said Hamulak.
Hamulak not received any complaints from the exploitation of workers, but some said they were working 12 hours a day, six days a week. Were paid $ 500 to $ 600 in cash every two weeks for their efforts. That’s about $ 3.50 to $ 4 per hour.
Overall, the arrest of 64 illegal immigrants, even as part of the raid. About 55 have since been deported. And most of the men in the 20s, Hamulak said.
Many of them came to Cleveland after crossing the border in Arizona, where the desert provides cover officers of border guards, said Hamulak.
Latino immigrants and their supporters have protested in the past after the hunt and arrest of workers, primarily in Lake County. Latino leaders could not be reached last week.
Ornelas, a legal resident in the United States, which is still known in Mexico, and sent the word: “to make it through [the border] and make your way up north, will have a job for you,” said Hamulak.
Ornelas failed to keep proper records and provided false documents and taxes, prosecutors said.
For example, Ornelas inform the Internal Revenue Service in 2007 to a feast in Oberlin, four staff members, resulting in social security and Medicare taxes owed by $ 1,135. Restaurant on 13 miners were working with the tax liability of $ 3,717.
In the day of the strike, 85 percent of Ornelas and eight staff in the restaurant Casa Fiesta was in the country illegally.
“He knew what he was doing and he did it again and again,” said the walls.
Eduardo Galindo, who has Luchita restaurant in the city of Cleveland, and questions the need to crack down so hard on workers in the restaurant is not legitimate.
It’s not like dishwashers and busboys and takes a job of “the man in some of KeyBank,” he said. But he understands why the authorities had wanted to go after the owner of Casa Fiestas, because it works, dozens of workers.
“If that many people who were not legal.” Galindo said: “I think that they have to do something.”
