Obama speaks on Afghanistan war in his Nobel ‘Peace’ Prize speech

Presidents Obama receives the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, Norway and in his acceptance speech he talks of war in Afghanistan. Different reactions are emerging on the surface about his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech.

According to the details, President Obama arrived in Oslo, Norway to receive his Nobel Peace Prize along with his wife Michelle Obama. Ironically, he is receiving the award just a day after he announced to send another group of 300,000 troops to fight the war in Afghanistan.

President Obama delivered a 35-minute award acceptance speech in which he said that the real objectives are still laying ahead. Justifying his war in Afghanistan, he spoke of the security of his nation and said that knowing the fact that his nation is in danger, he cannot sit idle. He also added that negotiations were not useful in the case of Taliban and sometimes force is needed. Defending the war in Afghanistan, President Obama said that it would help achieve the peace. President said that the force should be used wisely and one must abide by ‘certain rules of conduct’. He called the war a ‘Just’ war.

The Nobel Prize Committee says that it has chosen President Obama for his efforts to bring nations together.

While President Obama was receiving his Nobel Peace Prize, a statue of young Obama was unveiled in Indonesia. The statue depicts a young, 10-years-old Obama who is wearing school shorts and holding up a butterfly. President Obama was born in Hawaii and has lived in Jakarta for four years.

To prepare his speech, Obama read some speeches by past laureates including Elie Wiesel and Martin Luther King Jr.

His speechwriting team, which comprises of Jon Favreau and Ben Rhodes, helped him writing the speech.

Obama has announced to give his Nobel Peace Prize money, $1.4 million, in charity. His speech was streamed live on the website of Nobel Prize and was broadcasted live on national TV.
